Bemiss Nature Photography
Faith Bemiss, an award winning nature photographer, is a native of Sedalia, Missouri. Her first published piece was on the May 1996 cover of a newly formed national gardening magazine titled, “Birds and Blooms,” published by Reiman Publications. Since that time her work has appeared in several national and regional magazines including Flower and Garden, Missouri Life, National Gardening, The Ozarks Mountaineer, Victoria and The Lake Magazine.
She continues to have work published inside and on the cover of “Birds and Blooms” and Reiman Publications several sister magazines; “Birds and Blooms Extra,” “Country Discoveries,” “Country Woman” and “Country.” Her most recent cover photograph featured the black-eyed susan, “Prairie Sun,” gracing the October/November 2006 issue of “Birds and Blooms.”
She is a Juried member of the Best of Missouri Hands artisans association, an active member of the Sedalia Visual Arts Association and the Sedalia Area Chamber of Commerce. She also enjoys volunteering her time in the spring to teach photography
to the local 4-H Club.
Also, a freelance writer, she is regular contributor to “The Lake Magazine” and food writer for “The Sedalia Democrat” newspaper.
Her award winning fine art photography has been juried into many national shows across the country. A limited edition print, “Neon Diner,” is in the collection of the Farmington Museum, Farmington, N.M. as well as the private collection of Michael and Ramell Pulitzer, Winston Salem, N.C. In 2006 her black and white photo titled, “Egg Bearer,” received honorable mention at the Gateway to Imagination National Juried Art Competition at the Farmington Museum, Farmington, N.M. Best of show was awarded to her black and white infrared photo titled, “Pastoral” at the Sedalia Visual Arts Summer View Show. In the professional Fine Arts division of the 2006 Missouri State Fair her photo, “Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness Area—Arizona” received an honorable mention.
She and her husband Roy travel together during out-of-state photo shoots. Together they enjoy rising early and hiking the canyons and desert areas of Utah and Arizona. A spiritual person, Faith enjoys the solitude and quietness of nature, especially the red rock canyons and narrow slot canyons of Utah and the poetic rock formations of the Vermilion Cliff Wilderness Area of Southern Utah and Northern Arizona.
She hopes to portray and pass on the wonder and peacefulness she feels in the outdoor world through her photography—whether it’s in a small flower, insect or garden or in the grand vistas of the American Southwest landscape.
